Browsing through some home magazines or travel guide books, people will normally find homes that are mid-century designed (1950’s to 70’s) featuring retro furniture. In fact, in some places like Europe, old homes that are preserved through time become one of the tourist attractions. Of course the concept of “beauty” differs from one person to another and may also evolve through time and experience.
Each era that passed has been considered good and bad in differing aspects. But in terms of arts and crafts, each era’s masterpieces remain as beauties even up to the present time. With the advanced technology and more creative mindset, people can now recreate the mid-century era through building historic houses, including old furniture sets and other home accessories that will make a home look vintage. Actually, some of the modern creations are a fusion between old and new ideas, materials, and technologies.
Completing and complementing a home are furniture sets placed in conspicuous areas around. This is why each furniture piece must be made with durable materials and elegant designs to provide comfort and beauty at the same time. Most materials used in building houses like drywall, Formica, aluminium, cement slabs and stainless steel are from the post second world war technology, which if desired, can produce the same old post WWII houses.
Retro furniture will best jive with both mid-twentieth home design and modern furniture styles. There are of course a couple different ways of recreating a historic home. One is improving the current traditional house you have; or two, building a home from scratch. The former is possible if a post World War II home exists; while the latter if you have enough money to fund the building.
Buying a well-preserved historic home is also an option if you have money to spend, as it will really be expensive. Otherwise, you can just improve your own old home with retro furniture and accessories. Or build your own antique place. If you are single, you can actually make a retro pad for yourself. You may also want to consider visiting antique shops, flea markets or charity shops for some vintage and retro style furniture (and other reproductions).
